Peer Networking Meetings

What is the purpose of the Philadelphia Peer Networking Meetings?
The purpose of the meetings has been to give area out-of-school time (OST) practitioners an opportunity to meet one another, share challenges and victories, exchange resources, and develop new relationships in an informal environment.

Who should attend these meetings?
These meetings are open to administrative and direct-service staff from anywhere in the Philadelphia region. Specific topics often impact who participates, but everyone is welcome!

How did these networking meetings begin?
The Out-of-School Time Resource Center (OSTRC) has conducted extensive research on effective professional development for OST staff. This research revealed a staff-reported need for peer-to-peer support as a means of enhancing professional development. With no such network in place locally, the OSTRC consulted with similar large networks in other cities (including Pittsburgh and Baltimore) to find out how to launch this venture. An Advisory Committee of peers from local OST organizations formed to help plan meeting details such as dates, locations, content, and other logistics.

When and where do meetings take place?
The Network officially meets once every month (breaking only during the summer) at SDP Headquarters located at 440 North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130. Dates and times vary. Room location at SDP may also vary. Check the Peer Networking Meeting website for specific details.

What activities take place at meetings?
Activities include socializing and refreshments, introductions and announcements, a brief formal panel discussion with questions and answers, and dedicated networking time.

What topics are covered?
Topics for the panel discussion are generated by participant surveys and filtered through the Advisory Committee, but are rotated month to month.

How much does it cost?
It’s free! And refreshments are provided! The only “cost” is an interest in out-of-school time in the greater Philadelphia region.

How do I sign up?
You may register online to attend individual Peer Networking Meetings, or contact the OSTRC at or 856-533-2711 to be added to the email distribution list. NOTE: Until further notice, participants are strongly encouraged to register in advance for each event, as walk-ins may not be cleared by security at meeting venue.

What should I bring with me to a meeting?
While you are not required to bring any particular items, we encourage you to bring business cards, flyers, brochures, and similar information about your OST program to facilitate your networking experience!

Can I obtain professional credit for attending?
Yes. Two hours of PaKeys credit, through Pennsylvania’s Department of Public Welfare, are available for all participants.
